The quickly revised 466 competition (as holes 5 and 6 were out of action) was certainly not for the faint hearted on Saturday. It was nice to come to work with some blue skies but these were replaced with the odd blizzard conditions throughout the day. It didn't stop inform Philip Murtagh (winter coaching package just for your info!) and Jason Child who after a second place a fortnight ago took top spot joining up with Bill Dales and Graham Snowden to score 77 points and win by 3 points from Dave Ellis, Andrew Garnett, Gary Young & Rob Treweek. I understand that Graham made the most unlikely three on the 17th having nearly put it on the first green off the tee, and with the 90% handicap got 3 points for his efforts!!
The Winter Order of Merit is hotting up with Jonathan Flint now out in front with 3 events remaining.
Have you ever wondered what Adam Scott, Lydia Ko and other top pros are doing when they hold their fingers up at the hole? They're not checking they have still got their fingers! They are using a green reading system that takes the guess work out of reading greens. If you would like to learn how the system can help you read the greens, Eddie along with by European Tour Coach and Senior Aimpoint Instructor Jamie Donaldson will be holding a clinic on Thursday 24th March. Places are limited so please book to confirm a place without delay. Click here for more information.
Work continues on the ditch along the 5th and 6th holes. Talking to Steve they have removed the best part of 300 tons of silt from the ditch, and have unearthed some drains that not even Kevin who has worked here since he was in shorts can remember. As you can also see they found the remnants of an old tree buried deep in the ditch. Some of the pipes have now been running for days which can only mean that some of the wet parts on the 5th and 7th holes will hopefully be drier in the future.
The next part of the ditch around the 4th hole is too deep and dangerous for the current machine so a major rethink of that area is needed. Personally I would like to see the quirky bunker that MacKenzie put over the culverted ditch reinstated, he obviously did it for a reason as the ditch would have been so deep. What do you think?
With January now out of the way it really isn't long to the start of the season.
