Well Spring has finally sprung - a Saturday morning of sun and no wind took everybody by surprise.
Four Man Team Competition
Roger Eames, Duncan Innes, Len Fawke and Matthew Fawke set the early pace with 85 points in the Four Man Team competition, which held on for a long time only to be equalled by Carl Pick, Mike West, Tom Loukes and Iain Robb but they were all left in the wake of James Burnett, Elliott Kay, Robert Allison and Dave Robinson who scored a fantastic 90 points - Elliott recording 3 gross birdies helped by Dave scoring 3 birdies and an eagle two on the 5th! Well done guys.
Against All Odds
Pictured are just a few of the ladies who played in the Winter Alliance matches this year.
They are (l-r) Sue Rogerson, Beverley Burrows, Sue Winn, Liz Boldy, Christine Mannion, Patsy Mannion, Lady Captain Didi Powers, Glenys Smart, Susan Mannion, Lady Vice-Captain Glynis Webster, Beryl Pickering and Fiona Stoddard.
Moortown ladies showed their mettle in the final Leeds Winter Alliance meeting at Leeds Golf Club, Cobble Hall, to win the trophy for the 3rd season in a row.
Starting play in 3rd place with only 10 points, behind Headingley with 12 points and Alwoodley with 18 points, our ladies pulled out all the stops. The Moortown ladies took first, second and third places, courtesy of Karen Duffield and Liz Milner, Beryl Pickering and Vicky Renny, and Susan and Patsy Mannion who added a total of 15 points to Moortown's eclectic score and beat Alwoodley (always pleasing!) by five points into second place.
Congratulations to all the ladies who played in the matches, especially organiser Christine Mannion, who can't wait to polish the trophy (it won't take long as it's not the biggest trophy!) and put it back where it belongs - along with the rest in the ladies trophy cabinet!
Incoming captains
There are still a few spaces left for The Incoming Captains on Saturday, 9 April.
7:30pm till 1:00am
£35 a ticket.
If you would like your names going up on the board email me mheggie@moortown-gc.co.uk or Peter secretary@moortown-gc.co.uk it is always one of the best nights of the year at the club.
Easter
Lots happening in the clubhouse over the next few weeks, following on Mothering Sunday which was a complete sell out. Stuart informs he has one table left for Easter Sunday and one table for the Fine Dine & Wine this Saturday. This sounds like a great evening with a menu inspired by Raymond Blanc, Claire Smyth and Gordon Ramsay.
£35 per head including your wine must make it the best value Saturday night anywhere in Leeds - wish I could make it.

The Lombard Trophy
It's The Lombard Trophy qualifier this Saturday.
Prepare yourself, back on the main tees and a qualifying competition - don't panic it's yellow tees not whites (Yet).
The winner of the competition will join me at the venue of the 1981 Ryder Cup, Walton Heath, with many similarities to Moortown I'm sure we will start as favourites to qualify for the finals in Portugal in September! It probably doesn't need any introduction but if you want to start dreaming! Good Luck.
Prostate Cancer UK Marathon Walk
D Day for the walk is next Tuesday - we have been training but done nothing like enough but I'm sure we'll be fine.
Thank you to all of you who have supported via Just Giving and those who have made contributions directly - £500 was my initial target and then thanks to your generosity I thought we'd aim for a £1,000.
We are at 228% of that initial target and close to £1,200 if you haven't donated yet if we could get to that £1,200 or even more it would be totally amazing.
