Lombard qualifier
Bill Dales took top spot in The Lombard Qualifier on Saturday with a great score of 40 points, so will join me in June at Walton Heath. Bill got off to a flying start playing the front nine in 40 strokes off his 17 handicap - good enough for 23 points.
A halfway house stutter meant only one point on the 10th and 11th but Bill steadied the ship to beat Peter Holmes who finished with 6 points in the last two holes to pip Tim Broadhead who both finished with 38 points. Iain Robb showed that winter coaching is certainly working with a fine 37 points to win division one, coming back in level par to beat Stuart Santon on a count back.
Get your name down
A reminder that Friday is the final day to get your name down for all the knockout competitions.
The Lawson Brown is a singles off full handicap - entry fee £5
The MacKenzie Trophy is four ball better ball off handicap - entry fee £10 per pair
The Calvert Rose Bowl is mixed foursomes off ½ combined entry fee £20 per pair.
Only two weeks to The Masters
I think we could be in for the best one ever. Jason Day winning last week, showing he is at the peak of his form and Rory showing signs with two great rounds, add in defending champion Spieth, Bubba (always wins in even years) Watson, and a Ricky Fowler who wants to be in that group and it's got to be good. My tip though is Louis Oosthuizen, so that could be the end of his chances.
We are running the usual sweepstake, with such a small field at The Masters it is £5 a player, last year Frank Prust got Jordan Spieth and won over £125, hopefully it will be your lucky year this year.
* Prizes based on 92 players being bought.
Ladies Portugal Tour
The ladies had their annual tour to Portugal, and I haven't received any news or photos - It might be a case of "What Goes on Tour -Stays on Tour"
Watch this space...
The only thing I did hear was of Judy Owens having her bag snatched at Faro airport, so if you're off there this Easter be extra vigilant.
Walk for Prostate Cancer completed!
Well Jo and I completed the walk on Tuesday for Prostate Cancer - 31 miles from York to Leeds.
We both enjoyed the day both suffering from the odd blister and sore hips. Apart from meeting up with most of the Soccer Saturday crew, Jeff Stelling, Chris Kamara, Ray Wilkins, Ian Dowie and Charlie Nicholas and other Sky Sports presenter including rugby league's Phil Clarke, there were 50+ other people joining in, each for their own personal reasons.
Chatting to people who had been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer at aged 44, to someone who had lost over 8 stone in the last year all added to an emotional day.
Here is the diary of the day you might just see me in video at the start of the day making sure I don't leave Jo behind and here we are arriving at Elland Road 11 ½ hours later.
Thanks to everybody that has supported us we raised over £1,200 - or £40 per mile, it definitely made every step worthwhile - all 66,000 of them. If you would like to add your little bit the site is still open and can be found at https://www.justgiving.com/Martin-Heggie/
