A welcome return to Moortown
It was a welcome return to Moortown for John Heseltine, who after many years away has returned to Leeds and rejoined Moortown. Pairing up with his old sparring partner Bob Banks, John went out first in the rescheduled 5 club competition and returned 37 points to beat Peter Jones on the back nine.
Highlight of the round for John was a fine 4 nett 3 on the 12th for 4 points. Dave Marriott in the worst of the weather probably thought he had done enough being one better than 2's stood on the 16th tee with strokes on the 16th and 18th.
Unfortunately three bogeys meant 36 points and Dave had to settle for 3rd place.
Storm Katie
It was back to square one on Monday for the course with storm Katie wreaking havoc and leaving 40mm of rain in the process. It meant another course closure on Monday, but normal service was resumed on Tuesday.
Lady captain/Pro Challenge
This year The Lady Captain and I are challenging all members who want to take us on on Sunday, 8 May.
The notice is on the main notice board, any combination of men and ladies and prizes for any pair that can beat us on the day. All the money raised on the day will go to The Lady Captain's charity Centrepoint. If you fancy your chances and would like me to put your names up contact me.
Yes it was me for all of you that were watching the Antiques Roadshow last Sunday.
It was filmed last October in Harrogate and Jo and I popped along for a couple of hours and I managed to get centre stage when they were valuing the FA Cup at £1M.
The season is upon us
With the clocks going forward it really does seem like the golfing season is properly upon us, and it is the first medal of the year on Saturday. Alongside the medal is The Collinge Trophy which is for over 55's and is awarded for the best gross score and The Tankard Trophy awarded to the best junior.
A few spaces are available later in the day if you want to play.
Ladies Protugal Trip
I did promise news of the ladies trip to Portugal last week. Winners on the first day were Tracie Trewin, Liz Milner, Sue Rogerson and Sue Whitten. Judy Owens kindly provided the prizes. Taking the prizes on the second day were Judith Barnes, Nicky Cohen, Judy Owens and Dianne Thompson.
Liz Milner kindly provided the prizes.
FootJoy Shoe fitting day - Tomorrow
Also on Saturday we have the return of The FootJoy fitting day which also coincides with the fantastic shoe trade-in. Last year we had a national record for the number of people who were fitted and purchased shoes, let's see if we can break our own record this year.
Most people are wearing the wrong sized shoes and with the FootJoy MyJoy programme you can even have two different sized shoes if you have got odd feet.
Anybody who purchases a pair of shoes on Saturday after a fitting will go into a draw with the lucky winner getting them for free. To guarantee your fitting it would be helpful to book a slot, but you can just take pot luck on Saturday and turn up.
