What a difference a week makes
On Saturday it was touch and go whether the course would be open for the April Medal after another deluge on Friday night. The course was kept open and the medal was a non qualifier 108 people played and there were some great scores with Andy Nicholson taking first place in division one and Geoff Gibson division two, both scoring nett 70.
An arctic chill on Monday greeted the Spring Seniors AmAm, that didn't stop the full field having a great day with numerous good comments about the club.
Here was just one of the comments from one of the winners
Martin said:
"Many thanks for the vouchers - an absolute bonus to a most enjoyable day at Moortown. Can we offer our thanks for all the hospitality we received from the Pro shop, to the secretary's office, to the restaurant and last but not least the lady starter.
All are a fantastic credit to your golf club."
Lady Captain/Pro Challenge
On Tuesday the Lady Captain /Pro Challenge was played on undoubtably the best day of the year.
Didi and I played one hole with each of the 13 groups, Didi sank a (50ft) putt on the 18th, watched by an audience of around 40 ladies, to ensure that we beat all challengers.
Despite a valiant effort by Christine and Susan Mannion on the 8th (the only pair to have a better score on the hole they played against us) and a hole in one by Beryl Pickering (pictured) on the 17th, nobody could better our score!
Captain/Pro Challenge
On Wednesday the Captain and I played our first Captain and Pro Challenge against Malcolm Slinger and Martyn Duffield. By the time I had stopped moaning about the new 90% handicap allowance we were 3 down after 5 holes - enter Captain Peter, a run of five 3's from the 6th to the 10th and the ship was righted.
Worryingly, I played better on the back nine after lunch and wine and we ended up winning by 2 holes, so undefeated!
It was great to see all the green staff out madly cutting the course on Wednesday and to actually see the ball rolling on the fairways, perhaps normality has returned - let's hope so.
Ladies A team
The Ladies A team started the season off where they left off last year with an emphatic 5 - 1 win over Leeds Golf Club on Wednesday.
Well done Ladies it must have been last weeks coaching session!
