What a difference a day makes...
Friday morning walking to work with the course covered in snow didn't bode too well for the first major of the year on Saturday, but as the song says what a difference a day makes.
Friday morning the snow was still coming down.
On Saturday, the white tee markers were in play for the first time this year and blue skies greeted the first major of the year.
Free FootJoy Glove
This Saturday I have teamed up with FootJoy to offer anybody who purchases a new glove before play in the Medal the opportunity to get another glove free of charge if they beat CSS on the day.
Sixteen people did it last week, so there really is no better time to treat yourself to a new glove.
I must mention our Captain and Pro match on Wednesday, were The Captain and I nearly produced the greatest escape act since Houdini.
Five down with five to play against Antony Burrows and James Tibbott, a couple of nett birdies from The Captain, a cheeky two from me on the 16th and we were still fighting on the 18th, James held his nerve with a nett four to win the match one up.
No doubt if we had got out of jail you would have heard a lot more about it!!
Captains Away Day

Every week I'm telling you about success stories from members who have been fitted and reaping the rewards from having today's equipment fitted for their game.
One member who I promised not to name found 20 yards on a 7 iron last week on a fitting - don't know about you but I always feel more confident with a 7 iron in my hand than a 5 iron!
The new XR woods from Callaway are proving to be really popular with one lady saying she had gained 30 yards plus with a new 5 wood. So take advantage and book a session with Eddie or myself and see if we can do the same for you.
The Greenwood Sheild
Beautiful blue skies greeted the early starters on Saturday for The Greenwood Shield.
Peter Thompson took the early lead posting a gross 76 nett 71 despite starting and finishing with a double bogey. Neil Webster then went three better with a gross 73 nett 68 despite a 6 and a7 on two par 5's.
It was Andrew Thirkill who took top spot matching Neil's 68 with a fine 3 over par back nine off 10 handicap including a 6 on the last.
Congratulations Andrew Thirkill, Neil Webster, David McCartney, Philip Murtagh, Jeremy Lathom-Sharp, Peter Thompson, Matthew Fawke, David Barral, Jack Glanville, Tom Loukes, David McCarthy, Gordon Martin, Liam Magill, David Robinson, Iain Robb and Andrew Milner who all qualify for the matchplay competition, the draw of which can be found here.
Special mention to Philip Murtagh who started coming for lessons just before Christmas 2013 playing off 17 handicap with a desire to be single figures. Three winters of coaching and a huge amount of hard work finally paid off on Saturday when Phil returned a nett 70 to reduce his handicap to 8.9. I'm not sure I've seen someone so excited having come off the course in a long time!
Well done Phil it's very rewarding as the coach to see someone improve as much as you have done.

Ladies win again
The Ladies continue their great form from last year with some good results from the team matches played to date, with the A Team totting up two decisive home victories of 6-1 against Cobble Hall and Bracken Ghyll, and the B Team winning 4-3 in a tricky away match against Beverley.
I understand the ladies were pleased there were no cows on the course at Beverley that day!!
Lady Captain pro challenge
Great turnout for the Lady Captain Pro Challenge on Sunday with 21 pairs fancying their chances. Think Didi and I will have to be on top form to keep our unbeaten record - watch this space!!
