I think the flags must have been in some tricky spots on Saturday as the best score in a yellow tee Stableford from 129 competitors was 37 points, and the two club was worth winning with only six twos netting £21.50 each! There was a three way tie at the top of division one with Stuart Santon in the penultimate group taking top spot from Denis Birch and Keith Williams courtesy of the best back nine. Stephen Cirell reaping rewards of his winter coaching with Eddie took Division Two, also with 37 points, with Richard Jackson and Philip Murtagh second and third respectively with 36 points.
It all didn’t quite go to plan for the various teams this week – The ladies scratch team came out the wrong side of a 4-3 result at Knaresborough, Jo (from the shop) made a winning start in her debut match, along with Adele and Ailsa.
Tom Gray & Matthew East (first round substitutions for Rob Treweek & Simon Stephens) lost against Mid Yorkshire @ Oulton Hall on Friday 25th April on the 17th in near total darkness having been told only a 5.20pm tee time was available. The report from Pete Owens was they played really well in dreadful conditions against a scratch and 2 handicap player, just getting beaten by the rub of the green. We also went out in the Leeds and District team knock-out at Woolley Park with Tom and Paddy Noble coming out second best and Marcus Shepherd gaining a half point. Pete Owens and Andy Jones lost the Yorkshire Foursomes match on the 19th at Sand Moor against Low Laithes on Sunday. The scratch team also lost on Monday night against Moor Allerton 4-2, Dave Robinson lead us off with a fine 4 and 2 victory against Johnny Lawrence but unfortunately Paul Shires and Andy Jones both narrowly lost. As they say things can only get better!
Saturday night the clubhouse was transformed into a Caribbean cruise ship, with The Captain suitably attired in a Captain’s uniform! It really was a great evening with excellent food as ever from Stuart and his team, a magician entertaining at the tables and afterwards there were more people dancing than I’ve seen in a long time.. The Captain Martyn and Lady Captain Glenys would like to thank everyone who supported the evening, and the “Lifeboat Game” raised £570 for their charity The Alzheimer’s Society.
We are running an extra competition on Saturday in conjunction with FootJoy. If you purchase a FootJoy glove on Saturday prior to playing, and then match or better you handicap in the medal we’ll give you another glove absolutely free of charge.
We are still running the £25 battery trade in against a MotoCaddy or LitePower Lithium battery. The six reasons to go lithium are:
1. 5 times longer life
2. Lower cost per round
3. Super lightweight
4. Quicker charging
5. More Compact
6. 5- year warranty
They do seem expensive on the initial purchase but remember per round it does work out more cost effective. Click here to learn more.
This weekend's medal has just got even more competitive! Purchase any FootJoy glove from us on May medal day, then beat your handicap and we'll give you that same glove for FREE. That's a nice little 2-for-the-price-of-1 incentive for those of you who fancy going low. What a great time to dispose of that worn glove.
