July Medal
Really tough conditions for the July Medal saw CSS rise to 76.
Jason Child produced the best score of the day with a nett 71 to win division one by 2 shots. The highlight of Jason's round being a birdie on the 14th hole in what was a really steady round, unlike last year when he should have also won the July Medal but a 9 on the 18th put paid to that, no such mistakes this year!
Terry Kirwin continued his good form with his fourth round under handicap in five rounds seeing him achieve a single figure handicap - well done Terry.
Martin Cooper was the only man in the second division to play below CSS and his 74 saw him beat Jamie Chappell by 3 shots - it must have been all the tips Martin picked up in The Captain Pro Challenge the day before!
This week is Scratch Cup and Blue Tee Medal.
The one chance in the year when the average member plays the gruelling test that is Moortown off the back tees. The good news is that Steve has cut a lot of the long grass back this week, and the greens are fantastic. The bad news is the forecast does not seem too friendly, again rain and wind forecast which if CSS went to 76 off the whites last week I wonder where it might end up on Saturday.
David Houlding is looking to extend his record four wins in a row and get one closer to Nigel Sweet's six wins, but still a long way behind Alan Turner's nine wins.
For the over nine handicap players the chance to qualify (the top 8 gross scores from the blue tee medal) for the intermediate championship which is a scratch knockout played off the blue tees.

A trip to Royal Troon
A special good luck to Simon Kisiel and Michael Jones who are going up to Royal Troon to play in the R&A 9 hole competition this Saturday.
Simon won the 9 holes qualifier on Bank Holiday Monday with Iain Robb, but with Iain not able to make the trip; Simon invited Michael who finished second to join him. I'm sure it will be a great experience playing Royal Troon with the stands up the Saturday before The Open.
To mark the new official strokesaver that has been done for Moortown, which details all the green contours, I have in conjunction with Strokesaver got 50 Players' Edition guides for Royal Troon which we are giving away when you spend £20 in the shop this week.
If you are going to The Open it really enhances the experience of the course, but even watching on television it gives you a more informed idea of the shots the players are playing.
