August Stableford
Another tough day last Saturday saw CSS rise by 2 shots to 74 for the August Stableford.
Matthew East got off to a flying start eagling the first and then followed up with a second eagle on the 5th chipping in from the front of the green, a few dropped shots over the next six holes but Matthew hung on for 38 points to win by two points from Michael Weston whose 36 points were despite only scoring 4 point on the first 4 holes. Division Two was won Andrew Stead who also got off to a flying start scoring 23 points on the front nine, not sure what happened coming back but Andrew's 36 points was good enough to hold off Adrian Scott who finished second with 33 points.
Lady Captain/Pro Challenge
On Tuesday the Lady Captain and I played the second of our challenges against the ladies - 24 ladies took the challenge with Didi and I dropping back to play one hole with each group. The ladies were obviously not as intimidated as they were in April with five pairs beating us on the individual holes, with Fiona Stoddard and Sue Preston being the only pair to beat our combined score.
It was great fun and really good to see all the benches full of ladies to watch us play the last hole with Adele and Caroline.
Scratch team
Unfortunately the Scratch team were held 3-3 at Mid Yorkshire and with Wike Ridge winning at bottom of the table Horsforth we were relegated to the second division.
New Callaway irons
Callaway are due to launch their new Steelhead XR irons on the 2nd September and as Callaway Ambassador I have taken early deliver of my fitting irons today.
First impressions are they look like classic Callaway think X12/14/16 but with speed and power.
An updated face cup combines with improved welding and manufacturing to generate COR numbers up to the USGA limit, which results in 2 mph more ball speed over current XR irons.
The hollow bore-through hosel, last seen in X-22 irons, allows up to five grams to be shifted toward the toe, boosting head stability. The CG is positioned dead centre (heel to toe) to help with forgiveness.
In addition, the CG is higher in the short irons than where you normally impact the ball, resulting in a lower, boring flight. In the long irons, the CG it is below the impact point for higher-flying approaches. First hits in the swing studio back up the technical stuff - they are very very long.
If you are playing with a set of irons that are more than 3 years old, these will blow you away at how far they go, give us a call and book a fitting. Alternatively click here to send us a message.
