Greetings golfers,
The Saturday Curse Returns
It was the case of the Saturday curse again, as yet another Saturday was blighted by the weather. 20mm of rain fell on Saturday reducing the field in the Autumn Medal to only 84. It was again the case of the earlier starters got the better of the weather, with the rain holding off until 10am.
Winners Play Callaway?
On Wednesday, Michael Cooke had been playing with some guests and called through our Captain & Pro match on the 12th hole. My Callaway ChromeSoft Truvis rolled past Michael down the left-hand side of the fairway, on reaching my ball Michael passed the usual comment about my football. Whilst waiting for the others to play down I explained the virtues of the Truvis markings, explaining how the ball looked bigger and how it helped me with my focus.
On checking in Michael asked if we had any of those balls in stock and despite being reluctant to play with the yellow one as I had run out of stock of the white ones he purchased a sleeve.
After play he was straight back in the shop to tell me how fantastic the ball was, not only had it not marked, but he had scored his best round in years 79 gross nett 70, to win the medal and reduce his handicap to the lowest it has ever been 7.8! I think another convert. Andrew Milner matched Michael's nett 70 but lost on a count back in division one, with last week's winner Bob Hartley being pipped into second place in division two by Tim Broadhead who was using his new Callaway XR driver for the first time in a competition. It certainly was a case of winners play Callaway at the weekend.
Moortown Is No Joke...
Three days of the Yorkshire Challenge at Moortown this week, with over 360 people from all over the country taking on the challenge of Yorkshire's three Ryder Cup courses, Moortown, Ganton and Lindrick. Judging by the first day scores Moortown proved to be the most difficult of the three courses with 41 points leading the way at Moortown. Nineteen couples bettered that at Lindrick and five at Ganton we'll have to see how they fair over the next two days.
Silver Linings...
Unfortunately the team didn't do too well down at The Hudson Trophy, they avoided finishing last but unfortunately we won't be represented next year as the bottom four teams have to stand down for a year. The one person happy about that will be my wife Jo as it always falls on her birthday weekend!
New & Old Both Impress
In the shop new autumn winter stock from Under Armour and FootJoy is being well received, typically we are now having a mini heatwave, but you can still grab a bargain with all the summer shirts now reduced.
Spaces Available In The Jubileee
There are still places available for the Jubilee Trophy 9am shot gun on Saturday, 24 September. The Jubilee is open to any 7 day member and guest male or female and is a 18 hole Greensomes competition. It is also a board competition, the first one you see when entering the clubhouse as it is the curved one on the right. Normally a really good atmosphere afterwards in the clubhouse as entry includes food and is £30 per couple. Either book in online or contact us in the shop and we'll book you in.
PING is coming Moortown
We are delighted to say that PING will be coming to Moortown on 19 October.
PING have really evolved over the last decade to become one of the biggest names in golf (they sold the most drivers last year and are selling the most irons this year).
What's more is that they have just released one of the best looking irons ever - the PING iBlades.
If you'd like to come along or book a slot, please click here, and we look forward to seeing you there.
