If Bob Hartley was on the PGA Tour I think the FedEx would nearly be wrapped up and Bob would me a few million dollars better off! For the third week running Bob was in the prizes after winning the Freddie White and a second in the Autumn Medal, Bob won the September Stableford with a great score of 41 points edging Bob Banks out on the back nine.
Bob hadn't got off to the greatest of starts with only 5 points after four holes but the a run of "my best golf ever" saw Bob cover the next 11 holes in one under par gross, I think reality hit and he managed to stumble over the line with 3 points on the last three holes.
Bob attributed his run of form to a small tip from Eddie during one of his lessons to tilt his spine behind the ball with the driver. Nice one Eddie, Bob is now down to 13 handicap his lowest ever having been 18 handicap 3 years ago - Well done.
Johnny Greenwood won the first division with a fine 42 points, all set up with a level par front nine including two 2's. Johnny's second good round recently sees him also reach his lowest handicap ever of 6.6 courtesy of an ESR.
Bigger greens!
Anyone who has played this week will have noticed some blue dotted lines around the green surrounds; these are so that the greens can be enlarged slightly and are marks so that the mowers can gradually make the adjustment over the next few weeks.
This enlarging of the greens is possible due to the new irrigation system being put in over the coming months, once the new system is operational next year, the increased reliability and performance will allow the larger putting surface to survive without the fear of them drying out.
A busy weekend coming up with last nine and the Proms on Friday, Hutchinson Salver on Saturday and the course is closed for The Moortown Masters on Sunday.
On Monday work will start on the greens with some disruption expected as the greens are scarified and verti-drained. This work would normally be done during the greens maintenance program in August, but with the Yorkshire Amateur and other events has been delayed until now.
New arrivals
We have just taken delivery of the new Big Bertha Fusion fitting drivers from Callaway.
The first few hits in the studio today showed a low spinning easy to hit driver, which in golf club designer speak is Utopia.
If you are in the market for a new driver, certainly worth trying, I'll let you know more when we've had a few more guinea pigs through the studio.
Contact me here if you would like to have a hit.
The Ryder Cup
The Ryder Cup is fast approaching and this week I got confirmation that I will be an official observer for three of the matches. I am quite excited about being on the inside of the ropes I'm sure it will be a fantastic experience.
I will be with the second foursomes match on the Friday, the third foursomes match on the Saturday and the eighth singles match on the Sunday, if you want to look out for me on the telly!
I will also be representing the PGA at the Junior Ryder Cup on the Tuesday and playing in the Board match against the PGA of America on the Wednesday, so a pretty full on week.
