Winter Bowl Qualifier

It was another case of the early bird catches the worm on Saturday for the Winter Bowl Qualifier. First out, Mike Winterbottom and Adrian Scott posted a fine 42 points which most years would have done the trick, but right behind them John Heseltine and Bob Banks had other ideas. 

Bob who won the R&A Trophy earlier in the year is obviously becoming a four-ball expert. Their round came a light on the eleventh hole when Bob holed his second shot for a two nett one for five points! They finished the round with 44 points and were never troubled all day.

Unfortunately, we did have to disqualify a pair for signing for an incorrectly marked card on Saturday, please ensure with all these team competitions over the winter that you mark the gross score in the correct column, as that is all you are responsible for. We see it quite often in stableford competitions when player A get a shot on one hole and the score is entered against player B who doesn't get the shot.

Calvert Rose Bowl

Newly elected Lady Vice-Captain, Vicky Renny celebrated in style winning a very close Calvert Rose Bowl final with partner Iain Esplin on Sunday, beating the Vice-Captains on the last hole. 

The Plate Competition

John Heseltine sealed a fine weekend teaming up with wife Eleanor to win the plate competition.

 

The Battle of the Somme

Anybody playing over the next few weeks will notice that we are flying a commemorative flag for the 100 years since The Battle of the Somme on the 16th hole. I have got a number of these flags should anyone wish to buy one as a fantastic way to donate to the British Legion with Remembrance Day just around the corner.

Weston Park Cancer Charity

Moortown member Paul Shires was one of ten people to do a stand-up comic act for Weston Park Cancer Charity in Sheffield last week. 

After only six weeks training and no previous experience Paul and the others raised over £25,000 on the night, what a great effort!
