It was a 1,2,3 for pupils last week in the J Arthur Sykes. Martin Allison took top spot with a score that has been waiting to happen for a long time - a nett 68 being good enough to win by three shots from Steve Johnson. Steve had been moaning before going out that he had been having rounds where one nine was good and the other awful, he sorted it out on Saturday with 45 out and 44 back. Pete Wilson rang on Thursday after the Captain and I had beaten Pete and Eddie Pegrum in The Captain Pro Challenge saying he needed a lesson urgently as I had seen. Two quick changes on Friday and Pete shot a nett 72 to take 3rd spot.
Whilst mentioning The Captain Pro match Eddie excelled with possibly the finest ½ way food - producing a personalized cake for afterwards!!
Fiona Stoddard lead the Ryder Cup qualifiers, scoring a nett 72, having played the back nine in level par - Fiona obviously liking her new Callaway X2Hot driver and fairway wood - wonder how she's going to be when she gets her new irons?!
For the first time in I think 7 years "The Cleek" is not hanging in the MacKenzie room. On a beautiful day last Sunday The Captain and I lead the team out at Ilkley and fought for a very sociable half point, the next three matches went to Moortown so we only needed one half and we would retain the cleek again. Unfortunately in scenes similar to Medinah in 2012 just like the USA we couldn't find the half and Ilkley won the last four matches. I think The Captain will be making some tactical changes in September so that he can at least say we had the cleek for ¾ of his year!!
Scotty Cameron Centre
Many of you will have seen that we have a fine array of Scotty Cameron putters in stock - in fact we did have every model many in different lengths. This is because we are the official Scotty Cameron putter centre for the North East of England. As a promotion until the end of June I am offering a free putter fitting session normally £50 on any Scotty Cameron putter. Call the shop or click here to book an appointment and see why so many tour players putt with a Scotty.
