A better start to 2017 than 2016.
A full field of 116 managed to get round 16 holes on Saturday, but only just. Can I please ask that everybody is aware of their pace of play and their place on the course. Eight minute intervals is ok for three balls but makes it really tight for four balls and with so many people wanting to play your co-operation would be much appreciated.
There is no competition this Saturday but with people out after 12 noon on the start sheet we will again be playing 16 holes to let everybody get round in the daylight.
Saturday Stableford
There were new names at the top of the leaderboard on Saturday with a phenomenal score of 81 points over 16 holes.
Father and son Ian and Andrew Stead along with Kevin Henry and Bob Hartley blitzed the back nine to score 48 points. Andrew scored two nett eagles but all, contributed equally to win by one point from another father and son combination of Jonny and Ben Townsend with Andrew Blackburn and Rory Wilson who only managed 46 points on the back nine!
After 36 points over the first seven holes another father and son combination of Len and Matthew Fawke along with Andrew Bedding and Bill Dales must have thought they were in with a good chance but 44 points on the back nine left them one point short.
New Clubs for Rory
So Rory returns to action this week as a free agent in the club market. Interestingly he has chosen not to take a paid playing contract and decide to use what he feels is best for his game - a common sense approach not often seen at the top of the game.
He will be putting the new Callaway Big Bertha Epic driver and fairway woods into play, along with a set of Callaway blades, some Titleist Vokey wedges and an Odyssey putter.
Callaway Epic
The new Epic demo clubs arrived this week, whilst I didn't see any huge gains, Eddie took it out to play on Sunday and a new one is on order. John Fearn also had a fitting this week and saw a few yard increase in distance but a much tighter shot dispersion.
I see this more and more now that people that have had a good fitting in the past few years really don't see massive gains in distance with the new drivers, but as we change some time a slight change of specification makes a big difference.

PING G Driver Gains
Craig Conley was fitted for new PING G driver between Christmas and New Year, he came in smiling like a Cheshire Cat saying he was hitting it miles further - yes the driver is better than his old K15, but the specification change from regular 12 degree to stiff 10 made the difference.
Reason for such a radical change?
Craig is swinging much faster and with a different swing path than he was six years ago. So come along and let's see if you have outgrown your driver, it may be the other way to Craig and you may have had an injury just got a bit older and need a bit more help.
Fittings are FREE to all members and the chances are we might be able to add a few more yards or straighten up those drives with some of the latest technology, if not then we will always be honest and tell you to stick with what you've got.
If you fancy a certain driver and don't see it in stock then just ask, I have accounts with all the major suppliers and can normal get demonstration models or will point you in the direction of where best to try it, and I always try to match the price of the main internet retailers. So if you've seen it cheaper please give us the chance don't be embarrassed to ask the question.

Rebels17 Yoga
As I reported last week I attended my first session at Rebels17 for some hot yoga. I wasn't too sure what to expect, but Claire is a fantastic teacher the hot environment certainly made the stretches feel a bit deeper.
Some of them I felt slightly deformed and whilst collapsing on my mat and looking around the room wondered if I might ever be able to get into the positions that some of the class were in! Anyway a couple of days after I am certainly feeling the after effects, but it really highlighted my weaknesses in my body and why I can't do certain things within my golf swing.
I am hoping that after a few months I might get some strength and stability that will let me do what I want to in my swing. I'm booked in for next week and would love some male company (there were two of us last week).
If you fancy joining me or want to try a session at a different time just log on at http://www.rebels17studio.co.uk/ and register for a single drop in session.
