Competition news

Last weekend

The modified 666 to a 555 over 15 holes on Saturday was won by Karandeep Sohel, Stewart Laws, Richard Cooper and Johnny Greenwood with a score of 71 points.

Kaz was the main stay of the tema with 5 nett birdies and Johnny pitching in with 3 gross birdies including a nice one on the last for four points. That eight points on the last hole was enough to pip Peter Forshaw, Dennis Birch, Sam Roberts and Alan Easton by one point.

The results mean there was no change at the top of the order of merit, but with their second sin of the winter Johnny and Richard are now in the hunt for the top spot in division one.

There are two more events, one on the 18th February and an individual Stableford on the 25th February to decide the overall winners. This year with an average entry over 100 people in all the winter series events and with no cancellations so far the pot for the Winter Order of Merit could be over £1,000 so it will definitely be worth winning.

Shop news

FootJoy and Ecco shoes

Most of the new FootJoy and Ecco shoes have now arrived in store and I think you will agree that the shoe room is looking its best ever.

On the club front, we have been having some great fittings with the new Ladies PING range and the new i200 irons from PING.

As I mentioned last week Captain's Drive In on Sunday 19 February, from this Saturday we will be running the guess the combined distance the Captain and Lady Captain will drive, with all proceeds going to their chosen charity of the RNLI.

Please have a go in the shop and hopefully you can come along and support them when they drive in on the 19th.

No competition this weekend, hopefully we miss the forecasted snow.

Tour news

Aditi Ashok

Those of you who were at The British Ladies Amateur Strokeplay at Moortown in 2015 will remember an Indian girl by the name of Aditi Ashok won in a canter.

Since then she has gone on to win the qualifying school for the European Ladies Tour, won two events on the ELT lead the Olympics and gained her LPGA card. Click here to read a nice article on her.

Tiger's return to Europe ended with him only playing one round and more and more people writing him off. Butch Harmon in an interview on SkySports said

"Right now my concern is that someone I have admired for so long, and who I believe is the best player who ever lived, might not be able to play at any kind of level again."

I think he might be right, he looked like the oldest 41 year old golfer in the world last Thursday.

On the bright side it was fantastic to see Sergio hold his nerve and win in Dubai. You may have read this week that Sergio Garcia made a resilient admirer's 206-day Twitter campaign worthwhile after he agreed to let the super fan caddie for him this season. Mark Johnson, started tweeting at Garcia this summer.

Using the hashtag #Letmecaddieforyou, Johnson kept his favourite golfer up-to-date on his golf trips and family events, all in an effort to one day carry the Spaniard's golf bag. Garcia told Johnson he could caddie for him at the pro-am day of the British Masters, which takes place in September. Garcia said he spoke with his fiancée and decided if Johnson tweeted up to 200 days, he would let him caddie. Nice touch.
