It was success all round for my pupils again on Saturday in The June Medal. Gordon Martin had a fantastic 66 nett to beat Richard Sharp by one and David Boyd by two to win Division One. Gordon had a chipping lesson 2 weeks ago and whilst I'm sure he hit most of the greens in that fantastic score he did say he got up and down twice. Martyn Robinson continued his excellent progress to win Division Two with a net 70 and reduce his handicap to 15.9 the lowest it has ever been. Martyn has been on my annual coaching programme for the past two seasons, and has made some of the biggest changes I have ever seen of a pupil. The benefit of regular coaching makes all the difference, Martyn is now producing consistent scores and in fact leads the division two aggregate. David Auerbach finished second in Division Two, and according to his playing partner putted really well with his new Scotty Cameron putter. Antony Burrows who has also been having a few lessons after his year of Captaincy produced a really solid round for a net 72 and third place, most pleasing for me was the consistency of Antony's round with nothing higher than a 6 on his card.

The scratch team got rained off half way through the Monday Night league game at Pontefract so the rules state that the match is halved at 3-3. Next week MNL: is against Wike Ridge at HOME. Strong line up here! The team will be: 1) David Robinson, 2) David Houlding 3) Andy Jones- probably Moortown's strongest team. As ever your support on Monday night is always appreciated, it can just make that difference between a half and a win.
Some of you may have noticed that The Captain has set himself a challenge of playing 200 rounds of golf this year. Martyn has set up a just giving page at http://www.justgiving.com/MoortownGC as he is hoping to raise at least £5 a round in aid of Martin House Hospice. At the time of writing he is 24% towards his target but I'm sure once this newsletter has gone out he will hit his target very quickly. The sign up for Captain's day was the busiest ever and the first available time on Saturday morning was after 1.30pm! The Casino Royale event after Captain's Day is also sold out.
The Captain and I remain undefeated after clawing our way back from four down with five to play to beat Antony Burrows and James Tibbett to halve on a very wet Wednesday afternoon. Despite all the rain the greens had been hand cut and were possible the best I have ever seen Moortown greens. Well done to Steve and his team unbelievable effort. We didn't stop at halfway instead we were treated to high tea in the clubhouse afterwards - very civilised!
