May Medal
The prolonged dry period has certainly changed the playing characteristics of the course and with a tricky easterly wind on Saturday scoring proved difficult for the May Medal.
Peter Owens shot the best round of the day with a gross 73 nett 71 to win division one by two shots from Denis Birch. Martin Monnickendam took division two with the lowest nett score of the day a nett 70 beating Tony King by two shots. There were some more good results from winter coaching disciples, with Antony Burrows and Jack Cooke both seeing handicap reductions.
Last weekend
On Sunday The Captain lead a fine team to Ilkley to try and retain the famous cleek. The Captain and I were on the wrong end of a 4&3 result with their Captain and Pro firing 3 birdies at us on 13,14 & 15 to take the match from nowhere.
Fortunately some battling performances down the field meant that the match finished a draw at 4-4 and as holders we retained the cleek. I had to leave early for a PGA Board meeting at The Belfry and I haven't seen the cleek on my return - worrying!
Captain's Away Day
Captain's Away Day at Notts Golf Club (Hollinwell) is on Friday 26 May and despite when the list being up there being 13 reserves we now look like we might have a vacancy. If you didn't put your name down because you thought you were too late and wouldn't get in, then contact me ASAP if you are free and would like to go.
GolfSixes
Many of you might have seen the Super 6's last week on television. It is a new idea from Keith Pelley CEO of The European Tour. It really didn't do it for me and if it is trying to be the Twenty Twenty of the golf world then it maybe a missed a bit.
But that said it did attract a new audience, and I think Nick Dougherty probably summed it up perfectly in reply to someone on Twitter so I thought I would share it with you. Click here to view.
