A really busy time this last week, on Saturday there was not a single free slot in invitation and the feedback from members and guests was just how good the course was playing. It was a case of the early bird catching the worm with Charles Lupton and his guest Richard Weddall first out at 7.15am scoring 43 points and that was good enough to hold on all day. Bob Timmis & Chris Scott were second with John Dart & Ray Dart third and Paul Shires & John Pollard fourth having all scored 42 points.
On Sunday we entertained Formby at Moortown and despite the Captain and me not leading by example, the team won back the Dunlop Putter. Again there was great praise of the course from the Formby players some who hadn't played if for a few years.
Also on Sunday the team of Eddie Hammond, Andy Jones, David Houlding and Tom Gray took the annual pilgrimage to West Lancs for The Crosby Beacon. West Lancs have been chosen to hold The Junior Open Championship played every two years to coincide with The Open Championship. Needless to say the course was set up ready for an Open Championship - when Andy Jones is two paces off the fairway and can't get back on the fairway with two attempts you might start to get the picture of how difficult it was playing. The team finished in the 11th place of 21 teams, with Royal Liverpool winning the event on six over par.
The Scratch team produced another good win beating Wakefield 4-2 on Monday night. We are now tied second in the league one point behind Moor Allerton. The next match is Monday 23rd June away to Howley Hall who are also tied second, as ever your support would be appreciated.
The ladies scratch team produced their best form of the season in the sunshine on Wednesday beating Knaresborough 7-0.
On Wednesday The Captain and I had a fantastic challenge match against Richard Brown & David Ellis, it all went to the last putt on the 18th and ended in an honourable half. The spread at the half way house was quite amazing, the fine bone china was out Stuart and Cath's finest high tea and champagne were served all in the company of The Queen and Seve. Top drawer guys thanks very much.
