Competition Round Up
June Stableford
The forecast decimated the field for the June Stableford on Saturday, but in the end it turned out much better than forecast. James Tibbott posted a fine score of 37 points first out in the worst of the weather, which looked good enough to win division two. Martin Cooper had other ideas and playing alongside The Captain had 24 points after 10 holes. A slight stutter coming home saw Martin top division two with 38 points. Second time in the prizes for Martin with his new clubs!! Jon Cohen continued his good form of 2017 finishing in 3rd place.
Keith Williams was also in the winner's circle again having won President's Day in May. Keith scored 37 to reduce his handicap agonisingly close to his dream of single figures to 9.5, just one more score below Keith. Elliott Kay was even hotter out of the blocks than Martin Cooper having scored 22 points on the front nine; Elliott had 3 no scores on the back nine for 36 points and outright second place.
Lady Vice - Captain
The Lady Vice-Captain is another one in a serious rich vein of form; from the 1st April Vicky has seen her handicap come down from 19 to 13.5, a fantastic performance. Latest on Vicky's march was The Penuel Laws Trophy on Tuesday with a score of 40 points. The Betty Lodge Trophy was won by Molly Lodge with 35 points, Molly has worked really hard on her game with me over the past 8 months and you can expect to hear her name mentioned a lot of the next year or two - well done Molly.
Congratulations to The Mannion sisters, Christine, Patsy & Susan who along with Marlene Roberts won the Ladies Fulford Open with a score of 89 points. Well Done.
Scratch Team
The Scratch Team had a great result on Monday winning 5 - 1 at home to Horsforth - well done to Paul Shire and David Houlding for winning their games and to Tom Gray for coming back from 2 down with 3 to play to get a half, thanks to caddies and supporters for turning out on a cold and very windy evening.
The league table at the halfway point in the season shows Moortown in 1st place, the 2nd half of the season will be tougher with 3 away games however we play our main rivals, Waterton Park and Moor Allerton, at home.
US Open
US Open this week, new course at Erin Hills and various criticism of the rough from the players. From what I have seen and read it's going to suit the bombers as it is actually very generous for a US Open.
My tip is Jason Day, but with all the top players having been off with injuries and personal issues it might be a first time winner - we'll have to wait and see. With the lack of play on Saturday we didn't sell all the tickets for the draw so we have allocated those that did enter with more players. The draw can be found here.
