Hectic week at Moortown but at least we were blessed with good weather.
Captain's Day on Saturday was a great day with two past Captain's taking the top two spots. David Sheret took time off from his Harewood House shuttle bus driving to take top spot with 39 points, beating Jack Cooke by one point. Andy Jones won the best gross from Ian Stephenson, who saw his par putt on the last slide over the edge of the hole on the 18th denying him victory.
The Casino Royale evening afterwards was a sell-out event and just like the Caribbean Cruise evening was a fantastic event. I think Sue Preston won the prize for the most chips at the end of the casino, but after 9½ hours on the 10th tee doing beat the pro, I was out of it by midnight. Congratulations to the 28 people who beat me at the 10th and to Andy Earnshaw who won the raffle.
On Monday, Moortown hosted The Open Championship Regional Qualifying - the course was in superb condition and only two players broke par with James Hepworth from Ilkley taking top spot with a 69. Unfortunately the Moortown players were just off the pace - David Houlding got an alternate spot with a 73, Duncan McCarthy 74, Nick McCarthy 78 and Cameron Hutchinson also a 78. It was another great day for Moortown with both the course and support from the members and the staff receiving high praise from the R&A. Well done to everyone involved.
Unfortunately the scratch team went down 6-0 at away at Howley Hall on Monday night, next game is away at Moor Allerton a week on Monday so hopefully they can produce a better result there. Please try and get along and support it always makes a difference.
There were two Moortown names at the top of the Yorkshire Seniors this week, Ian Stephenson continued his good form from Captain's Day to score 75, 73 to tie Stephen East on 148. Well done to them both -Stephen is racking up the senior titles this year having also won the English Seniors earlier in the month.

The Captain and I kept up our undefeated record with a half on Wednesday against David Powers and the very inform David Sheret - it was courtesy of an up and down four on the last off the clubhouse from yours truly!! We all need a bit of luck now and again - Halfway House was a fine French spread based on Le Grand Depart -amazing guys they just keep getting better and better. Worryingly my golf seems to improve after a drink at half way!!
The Callaway offer of a free hybrid with an X2Hot driver finishes on Monday, but I have bought good stocks in to continue the offer, but once gone they are gone, so don't miss out on the opportunity for what must be the best offer in the golf business this year.
Blue Tees await those brave enough to take them on Saturday. CSS for the amateurs on Monday in Open Qualifying was 76 - fancy your chances?
