Greetings from Martin Heggie | Moortown Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional |
Well - all good things come to an end...
Andrew Thirkill and Andrew Garnett became the first pair to beat The Captain and Pro this season.
Three birdies in the first three holes set the stall out for the day and we never recovered.
Lunch at half way was a Wimbledon Tea with strawberries and cream of course, as you can see in the photo.
So the grand depart curtailed any golf last Saturday - but what a spectacle it was. I'm sure many of you ventured out somewhere on the route and watched a cycle race for the first time. Enough column inches have been written about what an amazing job Yorkshire did, and it really did look a picture on the television.
I couldn't believe it when we walked up the road at 9.30 to see both sides of the A61 outside the club lined with people - many people were saying "well we will never see anything like this again" - Well I would hazard a guess that it won't be too many years before we see The Tour back in Yorkshire.
The scratch team had a fantastic 5-1 victory away at Moor Allerton on Monday night.
Andy Jones won yet again and Dave Robinson halved his match, however the star of the show was Matthew East, who was making his debut for the scratch team and beat Yorkshire Amateur semi-finalist Ben Sardo off +2 handicap 3&2. A great result for Moortown that keeps the team in the hunt, sitting just 4 points behind Howley Hall.
The Captain completed his 100th round of his 200 round challenge at Ganton last week, with Andy Earnshaw, Martyn Robinson, Steve Cavanagh and Eddie. It's obviously taking it's toll on him as he was caught do a bit of dufnering on the lawn outside Ganton! If you don't know what dufnering is this article will explain. http://blogs.golf.com/presstent/2013/03/dufner-photo-creates-hot-internet-meme-dufnering.html
It was a great weekend of sport with Wimbledon and The British Gran Prix, but next week it is the best sporting event of the year - The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
I will be running the customary sweepstake in the pro shop £5 per square or 3 for £10. So who's your money on this year? Can Phil make it back to back, will Tiger come back all guns blazing or will Rory finally turn up trumps? My money is on Sergio - arguably the best player in the world not to have won a major, he played well last time at Hoylake and must finally remove the major curse.
If you want to get involved, dont hesitate to contact me by clicking here.
Don't forget that it's Srixon give away this weekend with every competitor receiving a free sleeve of Srixon balls that we recommend for your game. Also if you buy a FootJoy glove on Saturday and play below your handicap I'll give you another one Free of Charge.
Have a great weekend, Martin

This week’s medal has just got even more competitive!
Purchase any FootJoy glove from us on July medal day, then beat your handicap and we’ll give you that same glove for FREE. That’s a nice little 2-for-the-price-of-1 incentive for those of you who fancy going low. What a great time to dispose of that worn glove.
