Competition round up It was all round success for Eddie and my pupils in the Annual and Extra Medal on Saturday. Martyn Robinson won division one with a nett 71 to also take the Annual Medal. More importantly for Martyn with an exceptional score reduction he saw his handicap reduced to 9.4 – single figures! It is not only great pleasure for Martyn but also for me, in 2014 we started a journey off 17 handicap, the destination is never reached on a golfing journey, but when you achieve a three year goal it is immensely satisfying. Well done Martyn. In Division Two it was one of Eddie’s pupils Kaz who won, and another of Eddie’s pupils Peter Forshaw won the Annual Medal, topped the Division Two aggregate and achieved his goal of qualifying for next year’s MacKenzie. The medal concluded the aggregate for 2017, no one could catch David Aitken who has had a superb season to top the aggregate and James Burnett stayed in second place. Congratulations to all the winners on Finals Day on Sunday and commiserations to the losers. Paul Snowden beat Paul Shires to be crowned Club Champion in a closely fought 36 hole final. Peter Thompson beat Jack Glanville to win The J Arthur Sykes. John Walsh beat Eddie Binks to win the Greenwood Shield, and The Captain and Lady Captain fell at the final hurdle for the second year running, losing to Gary Young and Ailsa Jarvis in the Calvert Rose Bowl Final. |
