I'm sorry I missed you all last Saturday for the Medal - it was an emotional welcome back to my brother Richard who returned from having sailed round the world in the clipper round the world race. They arrived back into St Katherine's Dock in London having been at sea for 11 months. After having a tour of the Jamaica boat that he spent the last 11 month on - 11 minutes was enough for me! When asked if he would do it again he categorically said "No Way" - that said I believe it was a life changing adventure.
I hope you all received your free sleeve of Srixon balls and maybe found you preferred it your normal choice. Steve Batty fresh from playing The Captain Pro Challenge obviously picked up a few tips and won Division One with a fine 71, beating Paul Fullerton and new member Jack Kelley who having just turned 18 achieved his goal of scratch handicap. Richard Jackson won Division Two with a superb 67 - Richard recently purchased new hybrids right down to a number 6 and they have obviously transformed his game, Steve Johnson also scored a 67 including a 2 on the 5th! Sunday saw 40 ladies play in Lady Captain's Day with Fiona Stoddard coming out on top with 37 points beating Angie Gault by one point and getting down to 7 handicap in the process. Must be those new custom fitted Callaway clubs, which Fiona was struggling to get on with at first because they were going so much further - nice problem to have! Christine Mannion (also with custom fitted Callaway clubs!) won division two with 34 points from Nicola Cohen in second place. Sarah Armstrong won the indoor Gibraltar putting challenge - I' sure the Academy putting lesson before made all the difference.
On Monday I joined the Captain along with quite a few members at an evening with John Daly at Elland Road. It was an entertaining evening with a little insight to one of golf's true characters. I don't think The Captain and I will be sporting one of those jackets in a hurry!
The Captain and I continued our good form in the Captain Pro Challenge winning against the inform Steve Johnson and Simon Williams on Tuesday. We've a bit of a break now until the 13th August, so I hope we don't lose our form.
Thanks to everyone who entered the Open Sweepstake -click here to view the draw- Good Luck.
The other major this weekend is the Freddie White Trophy - white tees and the course in magnificent condition. I understand it was nearly 5 hours for the medal on Saturday, so please, please hit a provisional when unsure the rough is brutal. Also just be ready to play - if you play each hole 90 seconds faster that's nearly half an hour more drinking time.
