Well what an Open Championship, even though I had tipped Sergio last week I was delighted to see Rory win an Open and was delighted with my 30-1 each way bet of Ricky Fowler and my 100-1 Marc Leishman finishing in the top 5 to earn me a few pounds. It was obviously not just me who found it compelling viewing as peak viewing figures for Sunday were 5.5 million a rise of 2.1 million on the 2013 Open won by Phil Mickleson and 1.7 million more than watched Ernie Els win 2012. The game needs the likes of Rory and Ricky Fowler, most pleasing was the speed that they both played, playing the front 9 in around 100 minutes, they would have been done in sub 3hours 30 minutes if they hadn't had to wait on every hole on the back 9.
The poor weather that made the R&A take drastic measures of two tee starts and 3 balls also affected the Freddie White trophy. The course stood up to the rain very well and it was a jam packed leaderboard with five players all scoring 72 with Philip Murtagh winning on the back nine from Scott Harrison, Andrew Thirkill, Andy Jones and Stephen Dean. It's been a fine first year at Moortown for Philip, now with a Moortown Major to his name.

It was a proud day for me on Monday going to see my son George graduate with a BSc Hons in Electrical Engineering from Sheffield University - I can't believe that all 3 of my children have finished university, now all George's needs is a job. Let me know if you know of anyone looking for an electrical engineering graduate.
Congratulations to David Houlding on winning the Oakdale Acorn a 36 hole Yorkshire Order of Merit Scratch event with a score of 143. David returns to America soon to resume his golf studies and if he returns as much improved as he did this summer he is going be one very fine player next year.

Here are all the lucky winners from The Open Sweepstake and their accounts have all been credited. Tom Limbert not only picked Rory for £145 but got Martin Kaymer to blow up on Sunday for another £20. I was trying to work out the odds on Richard Hurst picking 3 players and each one being the worst player on the first 3 days! It proved too much for me but Richard didn't care he won £44!
