Presidents Day
It was a first in Moortown's history last weekend that Presidents Day was held over two consecutive days, for once the British weather played its part and didn't let us down either! As Moortown baked in sunshine all weekend long, the course as im sure you will all agree looked fantastic and to top it all off the scores weren't too shabby either!
Come Sunday afternoon 4 players stood with 40 points, meaning the winner would be decided by a count back. Well-done to David Boyd who finished first just edging out Ken Myers on the back nine who finished second, third was Eddie Pegrum narrowly piping Neil Webster on the back 3 to finish third.
The ladies who are split into two divisions, silver and bronze, all based on handicaps had a memorable Presidents day as well. Beverley Burrows put together a solid round on Sunday morning, finishing with 45 points that couldn't be bettered by her closest rival Vicky Renny who finished with 41 points. Congratulations Bev for winning the Silver division and Vicky for finishing second. The bronze division was won by a new lady member, Sue Preston, who finished the day with 36 points just ahead of Christine Mannion who finished second in the ladies bronze division.

Thank you to the President for organising and hosting a successful weekend. The lady members that not only played in the competition but also made it down to the halfway house to help out with refreshments and food. Thank you Stewart Laws who provided his usual liquid refreshment at halfway!! Both Saturday and Sunday, I'm sure it was much appreciated by all on such a hot weekend. Finally thank you to Stuart and Cath and all your team, I have heard nothing but rave reviews about the Presidents Day meal on Sunday afternoon, especially the apple pie!! A perfect way to end a great weekend for the members of Moortown.
White Tee Medal
Don't forget this Saturday is the August Medal, still can't quite believe its August already but what better way to begin the month than with a white tee medal! There is still time to sign up for Saturday if you would like to play, there are a few spots left towards the end of the field. Book in online until Friday, or call the shop and we would be happy to help.
Scratch Team
Moortown's best teed it up against Pontefract on Monday evening. Matthew East, Debutant Jack Kelley and Andy Jones accompanied by their trusty caddies for the evening The Captain, Judy Owens and Bill Mutch put together a solid performance. Jack Kelley fought hard on his debut to half his match, Andy Jones narrowly lost 2 & 1 and Matthew East demolished his opponent 7 & 6 !, well done, very impressive, keep up the good form Matt.
The scratch team travel to close rivals Wyke next Monday evening, please go along and support the team if you can, tee off is from 4:30 pm . Good luck team.
Ladies Competition News
Jubilee Trophy
The ladies competed for one of their major prizes last week, the Jubilee Trophy. The Jubilee is a stroke play event played over two rounds; the event was supported by a strong field of ladies all vying for the top spot. When the results were in it was new lady member Denise Nash, who seems to have taken a liking to the course already! That finished with the winning scores. Congratulations Denise I know you have been working on various parts of your game over the last few weeks, looks like the work is paying off!

I know it's a rather depressing thought to be thinking about winter let alone mentioning it in the newsletter at the moment! But ladies we have taken delivery of the new autumn/winter 2014/15 Golfino clothing range. Martin has decided to become a Golfino stockist for ladies, the only one in the area, giving the ladies a little bit more of a choice when it comes to clothing, I know a lot of you are familiar with the brand, its individuality, style and quality, the new range includes gilet's, fleeces, jackets, trousers, long sleeve shirts and much more. The new clothing will be available in the next few weeks, we all hope you like it.

Scotty Cameron and Titleist Vokey Fitting Day
A date for your diaries if you're interested in trying out the new SM5 Vokey wedges from Titileist or the latest Scotty Cameron putters, Wednesday 20th August from 12pm - 4 pm a fitting technician will be at Moortown with every combination of wedge and putter you could possibly think of.
So if you've been thinking of updating your wedges but not quite sure what is right for you, or you've been tempted by all those Scotty Cameron putters in the putting room but haven't quiet taken the plunge yet, why not take 20 mins out of your day to stop by and try some of the latest equipment and be advised and fit by a Titleist fitting professional.
