Well refreshed from a lovely week in Italy with Jo, it was back to work on Saturday for the August Medal. There has been a lot of discussion about the length of the rough, but the scoring on Saturday was probably the lowest I have witnessed in my time at Moortown, with 28 players playing to their handicap or better and 34% of the field playing within their buffer zone. Stephen Dean took top spot in Division One with a 67 nett, beating Clive Bowyer Denis Birch, Ben Firth and John Renny who all scored 68's. It was a good day for Eddie's pupils in Division Two with Robert Westmoreland finishing first and Stephen Kirk second both scoring 71's, Neil Preston finished third also with a 71. The pace of play was still too slow with rounds taking up to 4 hours 40 minutes, so we are going back to time labels on the cards for the last remaining competitions. So please note the time you complete 9 holes and the time you finish before returning your cards.

The PING G30's are here and Paul Fullerton who had recently purchased the G25 has already replaced it with the G30. In the studio Paul did see the small speed gains that PING claim with the "turbulators" but the biggest difference was a greatly improved dispersion of the balls - i.e. he hit it much straighter. If you fancy having a fitting (remember they are free to members) then contact the shop and book in now (Click here to do so). I think the SF Tec (aka Draw) model is going to be a great club for the majority of club golfers.
Fantastic news for the Ladies A Team - they have made it to the finals of the Yorkshire Inter-club Championship to be held at Oakdale Golf Club on Monday 1st September. They qualified by winning all their matches and finishing in the top four teams in the league - made up from 120 clubs from all over Yorkshire. The original venue and date had to be changed by the Yorkshire Committee as it was necessary that the Final was played on a neutral course - though they are disappointed not to be travelling to Saltburn, it does mean that the ladies of Moortown will now be able to be out in force to support our girls on the day.
Fulford came for the annual social match on Sunday and I think they mistakenly thought it was a scratch match - they had 6 category one golfers in their side and promptly beat Moortwn 5-3 on home soil. You will be glad to know that we completely thrashed in the bar afterwards, even with a tee-total Captain!
No competition this week as it has been greens maintenance week, the weather has been perfect with Steve and his team being able to hollow tine the greens and dress them in the dry over Monday and Tuesday, with rain forecast Wednesday. Hopefully when we come to the competition a week on Saturday they will have healed up nicely and we will again be able to extend the golfing much later like we did last year. Here was the 18th green before being brushed in on Tuesday - looked a bit like Dubai!!
