Competition news

Are you missing something?

We had the Friday curse again and had a deluge of rain that flooded the course. The course recovered marginally and didn’t want to cancel another competition so the April Medal went ahead on Saturday. Despite the course playing probably longer than it ever has off the white tees the scoring was exceptional with over 30% of the field scoring with in two shots of SSS.

It was Martin Gaffney who topped Division One with an excellent gross 72 to see Martin back down to 1 handicap. Liam Magill continues a fantastic run of form since purchasing his PXG clubs with another round below handicap. Russell Gunning also produced a fine nett 72 first round out with his newly fitted Titleist AP2’s.

Division Two was won in style by one of Eddie’s winter coaching pupil Karandeep Sohel, Kaz scored a nett 69 for the best round of the day, highlighted by his consistency – nothing worse than a bogey on the card and made a huge step towards his single figure goal. Not bad when he was off 18 when he started his program with Eddie, well done Kaz the hard work is paying off. Steve Batty took second place and was quick to text me how happy he was with his new TaylorMade M4 hybrid that I fitted him for on Friday – it really was a day for new equipment – are you missing something?

Just one last mention for Arthur Rowell who despite the course playing so long and now being in his 70’s produced his best competition score for five years and that was with a 9 on the 16th hole – well done Arthur.

Bank holiday weekend

Believe it or not it looks set fair for a fine Bank holiday weekend. Saturday is a rescheduled Yellow Tee Stableford, there a few places left, so if you fancy a game give the Shop a call on 0113 268 3636 as the online booking closes on Thursday evening.

Please note that on Monday the course is closed from 10.30am to 1.30pm for the Mixed Open.

There is a 9 Wine & Dine social on Friday, 18 May between 5pm- 6pm. The notice is on the main board. If you would like us to pop your name down just let us know.

Captain's Away Day

On Sunday, 27 May the Captain’s Away Day heads to Lindrick. There are still a few spaces left for what is always one of the best days of the year. The notice is on the main board or just let me know and we’ll get your name down.

It's 14 clubs for a reason

This week marks the start of a series of articles where we focus on making sure that you are getting the very most out of the clubs in your bag. A key way to do this is to look at your set as one, rather than breaking it down into woods, irons and wedges.

What does your set look like?
As you know, we’re big advocates of custom fitting for golfers of all standards. Many of you have taken advantage of this and are now hitting the ball further and straighter than you ever have before.

While this is fantastic, if you’re hitting your woods further you may have been left with a fiddly gap to your longest iron; likewise, if your new irons are a club longer then you will inevitably have a gap after your PW.

Look at your clubs as a whole
It’s only by looking at your set as a whole that you’ll be able to spot and react to any gaps, meaning you’ll have a club for every shot you could face on the course.
