The Scratch Cup David Houlding continued his dominance of The Scratch Cup on Saturday, equalling Nigel Sweet’s six victories with two solid rounds of 73 and 71 to beat Tom Gray by three shots. Martin Gaffney had two solid rounds of 75 and 76 to take third spot. David is still three wins short of Alan Turner’s nine victories in the competition. Blue Tee Medal Rob Allison won the blue tee medal with a great finish to his round finishing 2 under for the last four holes to shoot 75 gross nett 70 to win by two shots from Jez Howarth. Saturday was also a qualifier for the Club Championship and Intermediate. Lady Captain's Day Sunday was Lady Captain’s Day and the sunshine brought out some fantastic scoring from the ladies with over 30% of the field playing to their handicap or better. Top of the pile was Marlene Roberts with 40 points, with Judith Barnes winning Division One and Kathleen Lennon Division Two. Lombard regional finals On Tuesday I went with Phil Calvert to a much burnt Sandiway Golf Club for the Lombard regional finals. Unfortunately the conditions got the better of us and we finished well down the field. Anyone who thinks we are burnt up at Moortown you haven’t seen anything like it at Sandiway. The only bit of the course that wasn’t parched were the greens, there was nothing else green anywhere. Anyway we had a good day and I look forward to seeing who qualifies next year. |
