Amazing scoring at Moortown Saturday saw some of the most amazing scoring I have ever seen at Moortown in my 15 years here with CSS actually coming down to 71. Craig Conley produced the round of his life, scoring a 73 nett 63. This was after having come into the shop and asking if the Titleist Tour Soft that he had won on the Fox Tour were good balls and should he swap them. “They are really good Craig and should suit your game perfectly”. They definitely did on Saturday and Craig won the first division and the Vets Trophy. David Sheret came in and bought a dozen Pro V1x’s on Saturday morning not only taking advantage of the free entry into the draw for a limited edition Titleist tour bag we have to give away to one lucky winner, but because he had used one and felt it had suited his game - 82 shots later and a nett 67 was good enough for David to etch his name onto the Hartley Trophy, they certainly do suit you sir! Martin Monnickendam put his recent lessons with Eddie to great effect to win division two with a nett 66 despite dropping 5 shots in the last three holes. Special mention also to another couple of Eddie’s pupils, Simon Stephens, who achieved a plus handicap for the first time in his life and Billy Snowden achieved his goal for the year of getting down to 5 handicap having started the year at 11. Ladies Annual Medal Tracie Trewin held off Sue Preston to win the Ladies Annual Medal with a nett 69 to Sue’s 70. I was delighted to see Sue Whitton’s hard work and practice rewarded with her first handicap reduction. Well done Sue. Mackenzie society This week we have been hosting the MacKenzie Society, with a practice round on Tuesday at Moortown, one at Alwoodley in Wednesday and the two rounds of competition being on Thursday at Alwoodley and Friday at Moortown. I could not have been more proud of everything the whole of the club did on Tuesday for the event. All the members who turned out to volunteer to host all the guest from around the world set a new standard at the MacKenzie. The course was presented as well as I have ever seen Moortown, and the praise form all the guests was unanimous, Moortown was a really special place that they had all enjoyed. I write this on Wednesday night before the two rounds of completion, all that would be needed to make it a perfect week would be to win the event - I’m off to bed to get some sleep and will be trying my hardest. Fingers crossed we do win but Moortown has been the winner whatever the result. I would just like to add my own thanks to my team and my wife Jo who have worked tirelessly to ensure the event ran like clock work. |
