"It finally all came together"
When a member comes in having had lessons over a period of time and says, “It finally all came together today, that was the best round of my life.” it certainly gives me great satisfaction. David McCartney in his own words had the best round of his life on Saturday, limiting partner Shaun Gorman to only getting on the card once in the last twelve holes. 46 points meant Shaun and David blew the competition away. President Cup leading qualifiers Richard Pedley and Jack Glanville continued their good form with 44 points but couldn’t get anywhere near 46 points.

The Craven Salver The Past Captain’s met for the annual Craven Salver and then to elect the new Vice-Captain for 2019. It was a career first for Antony Burrows who after 47 years of membership managed to win his first bit of silverware! Steve Johnson was elected Vice-Captain and I am sure the club are in for a great couple of years with Steve and Bev Burrows following Ian Hartley and Karen Duffield. |

Spaces available The 2nd Christmas Competition is on Saturday and there are three spaces for a singleton if anybody fancies a game. It’s a good forecast and the course is in superb condition. |
Westwood wins again Lee Westwood rolled back the years to claim his first European Tour title since 2014, as he shot a flawless final round of 64 to win the Nedbank Challenge. The Englishman carded six birdies and an eagle on Sunday, finishing three shots clear of overnight leader Sergio Garcia, who finished on 12-under. Westwood, who is a former World Number One, mentioned in his post-round interview that he has "got a bit of a process" he’s going through with his golf swing, which is helping him see and hit better shots. It goes to show that it’s never too late to make swing changes, even if you’re a top golfer.

Just remarkable... With the new Rules of Golf coming into play in January 2019, it’s more important than ever to pay close attention to the laws of the game; something which European Tour hopeful Gian-Marco Petrozzi found out the hard way last week. Petrozzi missed out on a potential place in the final stage of Q-School, after being penalised two strokes for ‘improving his line of play’. The Englishman was playing his final hole and had to hit a shot over a fairway bunker – to pace his yardage, he walked through the bunker and then raked his footprints in the sand before hitting his shot, resulting in an infringement of Rule 13-2 (improving your line of play). If you’re ever unsure of a ruling whilst out on the course, be sure to give the pro shop a call or come and speak to us after your round.

When you're playing golf during the winter, your shots don't carry as far or roll out as much as they would in the summer. It's just a fact of life. It also means that judging distances to the green becomes a lot trickier, with many amateur golfers coming up a little short with approach shots. Have you noticed this trend in your own game recently? |
| Step 1: Gapping session Well, if you come and see us for a gapping session, we can work out the exact yardage that you hit each club in your bag, making finding the green more often a reality. However, you won't realise the benefits of knowing your distances unless you know how far you need to hit the ball, something that a Garmin GPS device will certainly help with. |
| Step 2: Garmin GPS device The Approach S10 is the perfect solution to your yardage woes. Featuring a high-sensitivity GPS receiver, the S10 will give you the distance data you need to play better golf (front, middle and back as well as hazards and doglegs). This technology is there to help you, so make sure you're taking full advantage like most other golfers are! |
