Well what a week at The Ryder Cup - It was a full on week attending the junior Ryder Cup on Tuesday, which has also become an incredible event with over 2,500 school children attending and hopefully wanting to take up the game. On Wednesday I represented the PGA boards of Europe against the USPGA board, I am pleased to report that with my partner Lucca Salvetti from Italy we won a point for Europe ensuring Europe won this match also.
It was then to the gala dinner where I sat next to Dottie Pepper LPGA legend which was a great experience. Front row seats at the opening ceremony ensured a close up of the Ryder Cup and the players. I managed to get in the stand on the 1st tee for the first tee shots - the atmosphere was unbelievable. More functions with Visit Scotland and USPGA but I did manage to see a bit of golf. It was then trophy presentation and final night celebration. I did get to meet a couple of the players but we left at 11pm just as it was starting to get very lively! It was a fantastic week that all passed incredibly quickly and will certainly not be forgotten.
Back at Moortown Steve O'Loughlin gave himself an early birthday present by producing one of the finest rounds in his time at Moortown to win the September Stableford with 38 points beating Andrew Garnett and David Sheret by 1 point. Keith Annal produced the round of the day with 40 points in division 2 winning by 6 points from nearest challenger Fred Davies.
It is the last qualifying competition for the 2014 Aggregate on Saturday with the Annual & Extra Medal. All very tight at the top of the Aggregate so a good score form a few players could make some significant changes to the leaderboard. There are still a few places available if you would like to play please contact the shop.
