Robert Westmoreland celebrated his birthday in style leading the qualifiers for the Winter Bowl, partnering the obviously in form Terry Kirwin (2nd last week) with 42 points. They beat Neil Webster and Rod Fisher on count back, which was hardly surprising as Neil and Rod had gone out in 25 points!!
Out on the course it is a busy time for the greens staff as they now have time to tackle all those jobs preparing the course for the winter. The biggest difference you will see this year is the long rough - a new machine has been purchased to not only cut but to thin the rough. It is much quicker at cutting the rough, and over time (5 years) we should see a much thinner wispier rough.
The amount of grass must be unbelievable; this trailer load is just a small section to the right of 18. The good news is you should be able to find your ball; the bad news is that ProV1 you hit in there in July is certainly not fit for play once the cutter has had a go at finding it!
It was the annual golf trade show and teaching conference in Harrogate last week. This enabled me to see most of the new products for the new season - Titleist have a new range of drivers, fairway woods and hybrids, whilst Callaway have expanded the Big Bertha range, with a new Big Bertha iron claiming to be 2 clubs longer than your current clubs! I can't wait to get some trials of those in the swing studio.
On Thursday, I was one of the speakers at the National Teaching Conference - Dave Pelz was the main speaker and I did a 20 minute presentation on "Making Technology Pay". I was quite nervous presenting in front of 300 fellow PGA professionals, but once I got on stage I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I have had a lot of good feedback, with quite few pros contacting me for more information.
The calm before the storm! (right)
It's that time of year again and The Annual Dinners are coming up. A list is up for the men's dinner in the foyer and the ladies on the ladies noticeboard. The Yorkshire Annual Dinner notice is also on the main noticeboard.
A reminder that it is The Calvert Rose Bowl Final and Plate competition on Sunday and this is a 9am shotgun. The draw is below - please contact the shop if you wanted to play on Sunday and we will do our best to get you out on the course.
It is with sad news that past Captain and President John Guyatt passed away last week, his funeral took place this Thursday, sending best wishes to his family and friends.
We have had good take up of our Ultimate Winter Coaching Package and only have a couple of places left. So if you were thinking about it last week, make a decision quickly as all the places will be gone soon.
The Ultimate Winter Coaching Package
With the competitions starting to come to an end and the weather turning colder we turn our attentions to winter golf. Now is a good time to reflect on your season and highlight areas which you need to improve on.
With that in mind Eddie & I have come up with ultimate coaching package to help improve your game throughout the winter period and hopefully get your game into shape ready for the start of the 2015 season.
The problem we see with many people we coach through the winter is that practice time is very limited between lessons, because of dark nights, cold conditions, and the expense of range balls.
Therefore we've included private practice sessions in the packages enabling you to practice in between lessons in the comfort of the Swing Studio utilising the technology we have on offer. Beats standing on a cold driving range with 4 layers on with your hands turning blue trying to groove a swing!!
