Is that officially it for the golf season then, with the last qualifying competition last Saturday? Certainly not - but with the clocks about to change it does feel a bit like it. Scott Harrison produced one of his best rounds of the season to top division one with 39 points beating Richard Brown by a point. Graham Hunter reaped the benefits of a lesson on Friday with Eddie to achieve that single figure handicap - well done Graham.
Neil Preston continued his good progress this year winning division two with 38 points seeing his handicap down 3 shots in the year. Bill Dales has also had a good year finishing second with 36 points seeing his handicap down 2 shots this year.
Richard Brown continued his good form from Saturday on Sunday, winning the Calvert Rose Bow final with Fiona Stoddard, beating Peter Wilson and Adele Allen.
It was lovely to see Margaret and Roger Calvert playing on Sunday - 181 years of combined experience, and I did here that after Roger had put Margaret in the bunker for the 4th time she was heard to say "Wait till I get you home!"
It was The Captain's 200th round on Sunday, completing an amazing achievement in only 8 months. Pete Wilson won the sweepstake on the number of lost balls 159! The whole purpose of the challenge was to raise money for Martin House - Martyn has raised over £2,500, if you would like to donate:

On Tuesday, we entertained Ganton in the rearranged fixture after the August match was cancelled due to torrential rain. We had to battle hurricane Gonzalo - it is obviously normally much windier at Ganton than Moortown as they didn't lose a match winning 5-1 !! It was the last game for The Captain and me, with The Captain holing a gutsy 6 footer on the last to earn us a half. I would like to thank Martyn, one for being a fine Captain, but also being a great partner - we only lost a handful of matches all year, thanks to all the members who challenged us, the great lunches and the great fun we had. I'm looking forward to playing with Jonty next year, who is obviously the man for Matchplay having won the final of The Lawson Brown this week, beating Len Fawke in the final.
It's all systems go on the course with the machine in doing the heather scrapes, and the new mounds have been created on the right of the 14th hole. This week has seen the army of verti-drain machines in with the best part of £500,000 of machinery working on the fairways. The benefit to the fairways will be massive.
Rohnisch Fashion Evening
Thursday 6th November from 6pm
Due to the success of last year's ladies fashion evening we are holding another Rohnisch fashion event on Thursday 6th of November, the evening will commence from 6pm in the clubhouse, where drinks and canapé's will also be served. On the night you will be able to preview what styles, colours and trends Rohnisch has to offer for the spring/summer season next year. Mandy Sewell (the Rohnisch rep) will be on hand throughout the evening to answer any questions you may have regarding the new collection. On the evening you will also be able to pre order any items you wish in preparation for next year's season, at a special 10% discount. I do hope as many of you as possible will be able to make it - please bring a friend along, the more the merrier!
