Weekend Medal
There was more phenomenal scoring in the Medal last Saturday with over 30% of the field playing to their handicap or better. Congratulations to Scott Harrison on winning Division One with a gross 71 / nett 67. Scott got off to a real flyer with four birdies in the first seven holes, I think he did get a little giddy at 4 under through nine holes but managed to overcome a sticky patch on the back nine to finish the job off. Gary young took second place with a 68 and Chris Pennington third with a nett 69.
Keith Annal continued his great form this year to win Division Two with a nett 69 and got an exceptional score reduction in handicap which now adds up to 5 shots for the year. Jon Cohen came second with a nett 70, lowering his handicap to best it has ever been.

Crosby Beacon On Sunday I joined the team of Martin Gaffney, David Houlding and Dan Pennington finished fifth at West Lancs in the Crosby Beacon. Dan played superbly and took the best individual amateur prize with a two under par 70. The course was in good condition but like a lot of places still struggling in areas to recover from last summer’s heatwave.
A special thank you to the Vice-Captain, Bryon Hutchinson, Chris Pennington and Gary Young for coming along to support, ball spot and caddy, it is always much appreciated.

Stableford Competitions
Nicki Cohen not to be out done by husband Jon finishing second on Saturday went one better and won the ladies Stableford on Tuesday to also lower her handicap the best it has ever been. It is good to see that more and more people starting to enter the midweek Stableford which are now held every Wednesday. Nick Collins took top spot this Wednesday with 37 points. |
Alwoodley host The Brabazon
Alwoodley hosted the Brabazon for the first time last week and it was good to see a young Yorkshire player Ben Schmidt lift the trophy. Not only eclipsing Sandy Lyle and Charl Schwartzel as the youngest ever winner of the Brabazon aged 16, but also did it in a record equalling score.
Moortown junior member (& Alwoodley junior member) Thomas Barnes-Grimes was the scoreboard carrier for the final match... we obviously do better junior team kit at Moortown!

Time for a little reflection |
Who doesn’t love the month of June? Long evenings, blistering sunshine (might be a little optimistic here) and plenty of opportunities to hit the course. With much of the season left to go and more competitions on the horizon, it’s time to take note of how you’ve been playing so far this year. |
Scenario 1 Hopefully, you've been playing regularly to your handicap or, better still, shooting under it. If that’s the case then happy days, keep up the good work! But we all know there’s room for improvement. Perhaps you don’t use a particular club as often as you could simply out of a lack of confidence with it? Or maybe you’re struggling with a destructive shot that is impacting your scores?
|
Scenario 2 On the other hand, you might be struggling to put a good score together no matter what you try. Some of you may be recalling a lesson you had from several years back or searching the web for a quick-fix only to be suffering further? Whether you’re in need of lessons, new equipment or a confidence boost, make sure you utilise our professional advice and skill set by speaking to a member of the team in-store. |
