At Moortown, Rob Treweek won the September Medal breaking par with a gross 70, nett 69 to win his first medal Rob and I think for maybe 10 years – quite unbelievable for such a good a player as Rob, and just goes to show how difficult it is to win one of those eight monthly competitions. David Heath was the clear winner in division two winning by 5 shots! Well done both. They took a little time to bed in, but Terry Kirwin’s new TaylorMade irons helped him to some gold leaf and a place on the Annual Dinner Menu claiming the Hutchinson Salver last Saturday by four shots courtesy of a fabulous 68. Conditions were obviously not easy and Jamie Allison had held the lead for most of the day with a nett 72, until Terry breezed in with his 68. It was a great week for Moortown’s Nick McCarthy who, having failed to make the cut the week before at The Porsche European Open, made the cut at the KLM Open on the European Tour. Nick played alongside Matt Wallace on Saturday who broke the course record and went along to contest right up to the death with Sergio Garcia, but Nick left his burst of brilliance right to the end, birdieing the last four holes to pull himself up into the top 50 and his biggest pay day of the year. It’s great seeing Nick wearing the Moortown logo every week out on tour, keep up the good work Nick, we are all routing for you. Congratulations to Sam Bairstow from my old club Hallowes, who won the Moortown Masters last Sunday with two sub-par rounds of 70 and 69 – playing off plus 5 Sam reduced his handicap by 0.1 on the day! |
