The sun keeps shining and the course just keeps getting better and better. With no down time for any snow this year the green keeping staff have been working flat out and with all the areas of rough now cut and collected (Steve did tell me how many trailer loads - I've forgotten the exact amount but it has been hundreds!), the areas around trees cleared the course is looking spectacular.
Iain Esplin was full of it after his team of Graham Hunter, Philip Murtagh (again) & Steve Batty returned 91 points on Saturday, thinking that it would win comfortably - enter Mike Tomlinson, Denis Birch, Peter Forshaw & Hamish Dunlop who thanks to being 10 under par for the first 5 holes took top spot on Saturday with 92 points. Denis Birch got off to a bit of a flier and was 3 under par gross after 5 holes.
It might be a little bit of shock this weekend with the yellow tees moving back on to the measured course for the first qualifying competition of the year. It is only a yellow tee Stableford to ease you back into it, but it is just that bit harder when you're on your own and got that pencil in the back pocket.
It is now only 27 days and counting to the start of The Masters, the traditional start to the season. The sweepstake for The Masters is always the most popular and is up and running the shop from today. Entry is £5 for a player with first prize being £150 voucher in the shop. There will be the prizes for best and worse score of the day and prizes for the top four finishers.
The ladies are off to Portugal for their annual trip this weekend. I'm sure there will be so photos for next week's newsletter!
Hope you enjoyed the new style newsletter last week. Let's hope the sun keeps shining have a great weekend.
