It's a Hat Trick for Charles They say all good things come in three’s and it certainly was the case for Charles Lupton on Captain’s Day. After two nett 67’s to win the Spring Medal and July Medal since lockdown Charles took Captain’s Day and his name on the board with 40 points. Charles was out first at 7am at the front of the biggest field ever of over 200 last Saturday. Playing alongside Robin hill it seemed like it was going to be Robin who was going to take the early lead. On the 18th tee Robin was two points ahead of Charles and after both hitting perfect drives, Charles proceeded to hit his approach to two feet, Robin missed the green and made bogey and Charles rolled in the putt for a closing 3 nett 2 to pip Robin by a point. Jack Cooke continued his good form and finished second for the second week running also scoring 39 points, beating Elliott Kay who was ruing the three dropped shots on the par 3’s over his pint afterwards. It was good to see the clubhouse open if a little strange and lacking in atmosphere. On Sunday the ladies were blown away for their Lady Captain’s Day, but again it was first out leading all day and taking the prize with Karen Hughes holding off Liz Milner with a really good 33 points in gale force conditions. Denise Nash won the second division and Rosie Lambert the 3rd division. It seems non-stop with all the competitions at the moment, congratulations to Shona Emmett leading the qualifying for the J Arthur Sykes -always nice when a pupil puts in a good score after a lesson. Down into the 1st division too, which was one of the gals for the year. It’s the men’s turn for J Arthur Sykes qualifier on Saturday attached to the May Medal – I hope you’re all keeping up! The team of Adam Frontal, Jez Howarth and Duncan McCarthy finished 4th in the Yorkshire Division Two Championships at Moortown on Tuesday and now head to Abbeydale for the 1st Division Championships on the 22nd July. Well done guys. |
