There was some good scoring over 16 holes in the individual Winter Order of Merit Stableford. John Renny took Division One on a count back from Steve Cavanagh, Stuart Santon and David Boyd having all scored 35 points. Andrew Beddis won Division Two also with 35 points with Mike West in second place on 34 points and Joe Hendron in third on 31 points. Both Steve and Mike are obviously benefiting from their winter coaching packages from Eddie, I know having seen both of them practicing that they have made some great changes.

So last week I asked for some testers for the new Pro V1 golf balls, I thought rather than believing all the hype from the marketing teams - honest Moortown member opinions would be much more useful:
"I used the new Pro V1 for two and a half rounds, eventually pulling it out of bounds with only 120yds to the green on the 11th!!! The ball reacts the same as previous versions as far as I can tell, excellent around the green. One difference though, the ball didn't seem to mark up as easily as last year's model. After the first round, the ball looked good as new, no scuffs"
Jason Child
Pro V1, still my no 1.
"No noticeable difference in distance or flight. Sound was slightly louder, particularly from the irons. Feel was as soft but seemed heavier without being dull, that gave the impression of having more control on and around the green. Undoubtedly more durable, only one mark on the ball despite some well struck wedges and at least one rattled tree."

Very glad to undertake your Pro V1 challenge on Saturday. As you would expect both good balls and not much to choose. New one had a nice feel, but couldn't tell a lot of difference around the green. Main difference was durability - after 5 bunker shots, there were no scuffs to speak of. Of course hitting it that important yard past Adrian Hall more often was a real bonus!

My verdict compared to previous one:
Much softer feel particularly round the greens. Ball checks very quickly too.
Soft yet responsive when putting, no loss of feel off putter face.
Driving, ball holds line really well into the wind or is it my imagination.
Irons, ball feels like it stays on the club face a little longer, perhaps that's the softer feel.
Delicious Sound: Comes of the face of the club with a healthy thud that only a fine cigar or vintage bottle of wine could satisfy. Lovely.
Big thumbs up. That's why I put my name down for 4 dozen! (Gone for proV1x)
