I totalled 32 years a golf professional at the beginning of the month and was honoured to have been made a Fellow of the PGA - one of only 19 in the North of England.
But still after all these years the biggest pleasure is when someone you have been working with on their game comes off the course with a big smile on their face having played well or better than they ever have before. That happened twice on Saturday firstly with Philip Murtagh who having been on my winter programme both last winter and this won the March Stableford with his best round ever - a 78 gross for 41 points. Philip has reduced his handicap from 17 to 10, and is only one good round away from his goal of single figures. Philip also qualified to play with me in the Lombard Trophy, so I'll be hoping he doesn't come down too much! In second place was Simon Kisiel with 39 points, Simon too has been on the winter coaching programme and saw his handicap come down one shot to 5. Geoff Gibson headed 5 people on 35 points to win division 2, beating Mike Winterbottom, John Anderson, Andrew Jones and Tim Drake on count back.
Moortown Ladies Champions Again
The ladies cleaned up the North Leeds Golf Alliance again, clinching the title at Wetherby on Tuesday. Despite not being in the prizes on Tuesday, they had such a lead going into the final event that no one could catch them. Well done Lady Captain Sue and your very happy team!
It's not too late to enter the Summer knockout competitions, entry £5.00. Lawson Brown is the single knockout off handicap. The MacKenzie is the men's 4 ball better ball entry £10 per pair, and the Calvert Rose Bowl is the mixed foursomes entry fee £20 which includes the plate competition at the end of the year. Entries are through the shop, closing date 6th April.
New stock galore in the shop this week and it's all a bit manic in the shop, but it's great to see the sun shining.
