Greetings from Martin Heggie
Moortown Golf Club - PGA Golf Professional

It was David Gracie late on Saturday that took the July Stableford scoring 40 points beating Mike Cooper who scored 39, before mixed competition adjustments. There was a bit of confusion with the point adjustments as ladies were also playing and in a Stableford competition, the ladies par and CSS are the same whereas with the men off the white tees there is a 3 shot difference, so all the men's scores are adjusted up 3 points to balance out the difference. Robert Blackburn proved to be the yellow tee master winning again from the yellow tees with 40 points.

The August medal on Saturday combines the Hartley and Veterans trophy and will be a yellow tee only competition.

Moortown recorded a fantastic 4 - 2 away win at Wakefield on Monday night to move to joint top of the Division 1 table - pending the outstanding result from the Wike vs Cookridge match.

Andy Jones continued his fine run of MNL form as he was 3 under par to win his 4th game on the bounce, David Robinson in his 1st game of the season came back from 2 down early in the match to win on the 18th with the most solid par 4 you will ever see, Pete Owens came up against a very good player with a hot putter to lose his match.

This is the teams 4th win in a row and we will be trying to maintain this momentum in our next game away at Moor Allerton on Monday 3rd August, the team is Andy Jones, David Robinson & Ben Firth. Please try and support the team a big win at Moor Allerton could prove decisive.

Ben Firth shot a fine 3 under par in the English Amateur at Pannal to qualify for the matchplay alongside Dave Houlding. Dave unfortunately lost to Walker Cup hopeful Tomasz Anderson in the first round but Ben is marching on and on Thursday plays Paul Kinnear from Formby Golf Club.

The Ladies "B" team finished 2nd in their group and the scratch team finished first in the 2nd division scratch, and both will be playing at YLCGA team finals to be held at Selby on the 2nd September and Brough on the 27th August respectively. We still awaiting news of how the "A "team have done in their division, fantastic effort ladies well done. The Leeds Cup has been on at Moortown this week. The Leeds Cup is the oldest professional tournament in the world and it is the 100th staging of the event. The PGA had a record entry and the comments from the pros on Wednesday all said how well the course was playing. There was some fine scoring with 68 leading the way in round one with 40 and ties battling it out for the prestigious trophy on Thursday. For up to the minute scores click here.

I'm off to the MacKenzie this week at Meadow Club in California and hopefully the team of Simon Stephens, David Boyd, Stephen Dean, Steve Johnson, John Anderson, Richard Brown and The Captain can go one better than last year at Lahinch and finally win the MacKenzie Bagpipes. I will keep you up to date with our progress.

Callaway Chrome Soft

The reason we ask is because this ball has been getting a lot of good reviews. It uses a low compression core to help amateurs compress the ball more easily, so it's long. You'll get good reaction around the greens, too, because of the softest and most durable Urethane cover Callaway has ever made.
