Short newsletter this week having just flown on the red eye from San Francisco to Chicago then driven up to Whistling Straits for the USPGA in my capacity as a board member for the GB&I PGA which is where I am writing this week's newsletter.
Well after a sound start and a 5th place after day one at The MacKenzie, we fell back a little in the 4 BBB, but the good news is we still beat Alwoodley and claimed the usual $10 a man. So pride is still in tack. It was a truly fantastic MacKenzie, Meadow Club have always fully embraced the MacKenzie being very proud of their course and restoration work and they really did roll out the red carpet. I know the MacKenzie virgins on the team were blown away, and I probably think the greens were the best I have ever played on in 32 years as a PGA professional.
We just can't compete with the locals and Southern Hemisphere clubs who are so much more used to the greens running at 12 on the stimp. Royal Melbourne won by one shot from Meadow Club courtesy of two 26 handicappers who might be more of a 13 at Moortown!!! It's not the winning but the taking part - honestly! Enjoy the weekend I'm back to work Sunday and hope we can have another British winner at the USPGA - I'm off to watch some golf.
