I must start with an apology for not including this story last week. The final of the MacKenzie Four Ball Knockout was played the weekend before last. Jamie Allison and Geoff Mortimer were trying to win for a third time and were up against Simon Kisiel and Gordon Martin, who had reached the final despite Gordon fracturing his elbow prior to the semi-final and Simon winning that playing on his own. Unfortunately for Gordon his elbow still prevented him from playing in the final, but Simon played some of the best golf of his life to beat Jamie and Geoff. To do it once was pretty impressive but to win the semi and the final on his own was incredible. Simon did pay tribute to Gordon for reading his putts and for playing well in earlier rounds, and assures me he won't be claiming both vouchers! Gordon and Simon both took my winter package last year and have signed up again for 2015/16 - must be working.
Other finals were completed this weekend with new member Thomas Robertshaw winning the 36 hole Club Championship, beating Paul Shires in the final - a commanding first 18 hole lead was pegged back a bit by Paul in the afternoon but he had left himself too much do in the morning.
Another pupil was successful in the Lawson Brown final, Richard Warwick won a close battle against Chris Lord finally winning on the first extra hole.
It was Andy Jones and Scott Harrison to the fore in the Winter Bowl Qualifier on Saturday scoring 43 points and just held off the late charge from another pupil David McCartney and partner Rory Wilson who also scored 43 but lost on a countback. The top 8 pairs qualify for the knock-out and here is the draw.
It is the final handicap qualifying competition of the year on Saturday with the October Stableford, the last opportunity to get that handicap down (or up!) for the year. With just short of 130 on the start sheet the appetite for competitive golf is obviously still very strong at Moortown.

With the course starting to play longer and the ground being heavier, now is the time that we find peoples batteries on their electric trolleys are starting to struggle to get round. PowaKaddy have launched a new universal lithium battery which is at least 25% lighter than any brands and 20% more powerful. To launch the new batteries we are running a £25 trade in for you old battery up until Christmas on both the 18 and 36 hole batteries. Lithium batteries have many advantages over the conventional lead acid batteries, not only being lighter but also lasting up to 5 times longer. They come with a five year pro-rata warranty and a new charger. This is a limited promotion so if you are thinking of a new battery call in today and let us show you the difference.
Still time to get your name down for the Clubhouse House Centenary Celebration Dinner on the 31st October.
There are also places for the Mixed Bonfire Competition on the 8th November. Stuart has put on a great menu for afterwards and with fireworks from "Fat Firework" I'm sure it will be a great way to spend a Sunday in November.
